Classes

Our classes are aimed at helping students apply knowledge from core subjects in a hands-on learning environment. Classes add supplementary and enrichment support to any curriculum program.

Class options for Bigs age group may rotate each semester, based on teacher & scheduling availability. Any class options that are offered both semesters will have different topics for each class meeting.

  • The Arts

    This class is offered in a half-day sign-up option with Puzzles & Games.

    Meeting Dates: 8/11, 8/25, 9/8, 9/22, 10/13, 10/27, 11/10, 12/1

    Time: 12:30-1:30pm

    Tuition: $130

    n this class we will be learning all about the arts! Our primary focus will be on music and the visual arts, but we will also touch on things like theatre and even a little dancing! We will learn about different composers and artists, we will play instruments and create art pieces to take home, and so much more!

  • Puzzles & Games

    This class is offered in a half-day sign-up option with The Arts.

    Meeting Dates: 8/11, 8/25, 9/8, 9/22, 10/13, 10/27, 11/10, 12/1

    Time: 1:45-2:45pm

    Tuition: $120

    Games and Puzzles - Join us this semester as we flex our brain muscles through puzzles of all different kinds! We will be solving everything from sudoku puzzles and jigsaw puzzles to riddles and brain teasers! This class is a great way to get students thinking outside of the box while also incorporating problem solving skills.

  • Drama

    This class is offered in a half-day sign-up option with book club.

    Meeting Dates: 8/22, 8/29, 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10

    Time: 12:30-2:00pm

    Tuition: $200

    We will meet once a week over the course of 8 weeks, to explore and practice various areas of the theatre world, such as improvisation and character development. Through drama, we will develop oral communication skills, motivation and commitment, cooperative skills, and so much more! At the end of the two months, we will put on a small production to show off all that we have learned

  • Book Club

    This class is offered in a half-day sign-up option with Drama.

    Meeting Dates: 8/22, 8/29, 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10

    Time: 2:15-3:30pm

    Tuition: $120

    Over the course of these eight weeks, we will be reading through an age-appropriate book together while discussing the different parts of the narrative such as conflict, mood, setting, etc. We will also ask and discuss upper-level thinking questions about the story. At the end of the course, the students will each put together a story board and we will have a small reading fair!

  • Algebra I

    Meeting Dates: 8/4, 8/18, 9/1, 9/15, 10/6, 10/20, 11/3, 11/17, 12/8

    Time: 12:30-1:30pm

    Tuition: $100

    In this class we will dive into topics of algebra to help provide the foundation students require for future success in high school mathematics, critical thinking and problem solving. Agebra 1 topics include recognizing and developing patterns using tables, graphs and equations. In addition, students will explore operations on algebraic expressions, apply mathematical properties to algebraic equations. Students will solve problems using equations, graphs and tables to investigate linear relationships.

  • Junior Master Gardener

    Meeting Dates: 8/22, 8/29, 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10

    Time: 10:00am-12:00pm

    Tuition: $135

    The Junior Master Gardner program is an innovative youth gardening project developed by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Services. The program offers horticultural and environmental science education, as well as leadership and life skills development through fun and creative activities. This program is committed to helping young people become good gardeners and good citizens so they can make a positive contribution to their community and family. Students who complete both the fall and spring semester of the JMG course and participate in our class service project will be eligible for Junior Master Gardner certification, to be presented at the conclusion of Spring semester.

  • Foraging Unit Study

    Meeting Dates: 11/13

    Time: 9:00am-12:00pm

    Tuition: $50

    The Foraging unit study will get you started foraging wild edibles and medicinal plants and herbs safely, ethically, and sustainably. You will be guided through the process of identifying edible and medicinal plants and differentiating them from toxic lookalikes (and toxic plants in general).

  • Math Tutoring

    Private tutoring session can be scheduled with Jenny by contacting her directly.

  • Biology I

    Meeting Dates: 8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 8/25, 9/1, 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29*, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 12/1, 12/8

    Time: 9:00-11:00am

    Tuition: $395

    In this class, we will discuss the famous work of some scientists, successfully complete biology lab assignments, examine why science is useful, introduce how a scientist works, and explore the many divisions in Biology. I will be using the following textbook for reference: Biology: A Search for Order in Complexity 2nd edition. However, a textbook is not required for this course.

    This Class Includes lecture and lab for 18- 2 hour classes and 1 full day on 9/29

    Biology Career Day (9/29) - We’ll enjoy a day of inspirational talks from some of the scientific leaders in the area. Learn about how their scientific background led to their present day occupation and how their love for science inspired their goals of making a difference. This Biology Career Day is included with the Biology class price this fall.

  • Yearbook

    Meeting Dates: 8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 8/25, 9/1, 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 12/1, 12/8

    Time: 11:00am-12:00pm

    Tuition: $150

    Interested in photography and making memories? Want to learn about sales goals and managing deadlines? Enjoy working as a team to create something that will stand the test of time? Join Yearbook Staff and Graphic Design to help create The Country Schoolhouse's yearbook for the 2023 - 2024 school year. In this class, we will practice photography techniques, learn how to edit photos, design page layouts, and create a stand - out yearbook. Join this class, and let's continue the tradition of memorable yearbooks with The Country Schoolhouse.

  • Homesteading & Life Skills

    Meeting Date: 9/28

    *We will be hosting more of these throughout the semester, but they will be posted on a month to month basis, depending on availability of guest speakers and skilled professionals.

    Time: 9:00-2:00pm

    Tuition: $40/each

    In this course, we will learn about the skills it takes to start and maintain a small homestead. We will cover agriculture science, food science, life skills, and much more. Classes will involve hands on outdoor building and working activities. Lessons will be loosely based on the textbook Introduction to Homestead Science by Kody Hanner, however a textbook is not required for this class.

  • Chess Unit Study

    Meeting Dates: TBD

    Time: 9:00am-12:00pm

    Tuition: $30

    Everyone’s favorite chess club teacher, Mr. Jed, is planning to host multiple half day unit studies during fall semester for different ability groups (beginner, intermediate, advanced). His unit studies will be posted on a month to month basis due to his ever-changing work schedule. Check back later for more info!

  • Upper Level S.T.E.A.M. Unit Study

    It’s time to take our STEAM lessons to the next level as our students are aging up into high school. We will be hosting at least one upper level STEAM building day later in the semester. Mr. Jed will bring his knowledge of science and Mrs. Lauren will bring the fun as they partner together to help take student’s engineering design ideas and science concepts to the next level!

    Beginner Sewing (Ages 9+)

    September 7 * 1-Day Class

    Small Class Group (6 max)

    9am-2pm

    $40 + $15 supply fee

    If there’s one homesteading skill that everyone should know, regardless of gender or age, it’s sewing. Join Mrs. Ruth in a small group setting for this one-day class where students will learn sewing machine basics and make small take-home projects. Come join this laid back, fun experience, and leave with an introduction to an invaluable skill.

  • Intermediate Sewing Class

    September 14 * 1-Day Class

    Small Class Group (6 max)

    9am-2pm

    $40 + $15 supply fee

    This 1-day class will tackle larger projects that require a base knowledge of sewing and machine usage. Students will be in a small class setting of only 4-6 students allowing opportunities to work one on one with Mrs. Ruth to create their projects.
